The Washington Co. Chapter of ORTA was organized on May 18, 1966, in Marietta with a charter membership count of twenty-five. Annual dues were set at $1.00. Today, the chapter meets every other month at the historic Hotel Lafayette for fellowship, lunch, a program, and a business meeting.

Members of the WCRTA take pride in their volunteer activities and their ongoing support of teachers and education. Each year, the WCRTA awards a scholarship to a high school graduate who aspires to become an educator. The chapter also organizes and hosts seminars for teachers who are contemplating retirement.

The WCRTA is proud of this history of statewide service. Two of our members, Ethel Guthrie and Hugh Coffman, have served as President of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. In 2007, our membership is approaching three hundred and continues to grow.

The retired teachers of Washington County saluted  ORTA on the occasion of its 60th anniversary with the above quilt square.
