Morgan County Quilt Block Story The Morgan County Chapter Retired Teachers Association was organized
August 31, 1967 at the Masonic Temple in McConnelsville. Mrs. Ethel Guthrie of Marietta, Trustee of ORTA, was present and
assisted in organizing the chapter. The first officers were: Helen Mae Davis, President; Ernistine Ball, Vice President; and
Metta Banks, Secretary.
The first year's membership was thirty and in 1997 the chapter had 47 members.
The
members of the Morgan County Chapter are involved in various community activities. Some members substitute teach, serve as
judges for contests, volunteer at rest homes, at the Historical Society, the thrift shop and food pantry. Others deliver Meals
on Wheels. Retired teachers continue these activities in the community.
The Morgan County Historical Society moved
a one-room school to Malta and some members of the Morgan Chapter serve as docents for tour groups. These groups of visitors
may spend the day learning about how schools operated at the turn of the century.
Morgan RTA offers a yearly scholarship
to a graduating senior who is pursuing a future in the teaching profession, holds interesting programs and takes summer excursions.
Ruth Hart, now deceased, served as treasurer and was an influential leader in the chapter.
